TARGETjobs Breakfast News. 25 February 2009. RSVP eloise.spearman@targetjobs.co.uk

The TARGETjobs Breakfast News events are designed to provide leading graduate recruiters throughout the UK with a rigorous analysis of the graduate recruitment market. With the help of independent economists, university students, AGR members – and now AGCAS – we’re able to give you a clear picture of what’s happening in the market today, as well as what’s likely to happen in the months ahead. And all in about two hours.
Our upcoming Breakfast News event – sponsored by TMP Worldwide and in association with the AGR – will take place at the restaurant Skylon in the Royal Festival Hall. So along with the usual good company of those from around the industry, you’ll be able to enjoy an English breakfast prepared by a brilliant Gordon Ramsay-trained chef, not to mention some of the best views in London.

Hope you can make it,

9.00 am
Session 1: The economic forecast

Bryan Finn from Business Economics Ltd will present a comprehensive overview of the current economy. He’ll look at key economic indicators such as housing prices, consumer confidence and the views of industry leaders to determine how long the recession will last and whether there’s any merit to one Government minister’s assertion that there are already ‘green shoots’ of economic recovery.

9.30 am
Session 2: The student research

In light of government plans to create three-month internships for graduates during the recession, Neil Harrison of TMP Worldwide will explore student and employer views on internships and Industrial Placements (IPs). The research will cover everything from the value of internships and IPs, to whether they give students a competitive advantage, to why employers find them so useful (or not).

10.00 am
Session 3: The Careers Services overview

For the first time at Breakfast News, a representative of the Association of Graduate Careers Advisory Services (AGCAS) will join our panel of speakers. Anne-Marie Martin from the University of London will talk about the importance of University Careers Services both in the graduate recruitment process and as a source of up-to-date information on student attitudes, aspirations and behaviour.

10.15 am
Session 4: The graduate recruiter confidence snapshot

Carl Gilleard of the AGR will reveal what graduate recruiters up and down the country make of the current economic climate, how it’s affecting their recruitment plans and when they think things will improve.

10.30 am
Session 5: The panel session

This new and optional 30-minute session is a chance for
you to ask the day’s presenters any questions you may have.
